Smack My Disc Up
The problem with these places, aside from the fact that they sell nothing but bootleg compilations of techno-pop and the new Gorillaz record, is that they're the size of a 1984 luxury model Skoda. Aside from the heat and stank you wade through in hopes of one gem (please, ghost of Captain Beefheart, let me finally find a copy of the VU's Squeeze, even if it's a shitty, Eastern Moravian burn), you also never know what your fellow cell-mates are up to. Is the guy who stands by the counter looking out for my safety, or is he calculating how long it will take me to realize my wallet, watch and keys are missing after I leave the store? And you wonder, can they really make enough money off Dara Rolins posters to keep this place open, or are there some laundry machines in the back?
"So," you ask, "where do I spend the 200 crowns I got for a week of teaching English to bankers?" Don't go to Bonton or any other stepbrothers of King Tower and Queen Virgin, where the new Creed disc will run you at least 650 Kc, (though some fans of Christian rock may argue it's worth every heller). Instead, try these refreshing alternatives.
First stop: Musicland on ríjna, between Mustek and Jungmannovo nám. Their tagline reads "All kinds of music & young fashion," and they deliver, if you consider hip-hop and electronic "all kinds" and t-shirts to be "fashion." I do, so this place gets high marks. True, they have other kinds of "music" (but is Phish really music? Or just an excuse for hippies to not kill themselves?) but it's really all about MCn' and DJn', as it's always been. You'll realize how lucky we are to have Musicland's hip-hop section when you consider we're in a country that usually just lumps "all that shit" into an offensively labeled "Black Music" section along with Tina Turner, the Commodores and Al Jolson records. But the Czechs know not what they do.
You may have some trouble sniffing out the obscure, but you should be able to find most of what you want: Rob Swift/Executioners, Del, D.I.T.C. and its spin-offs, and all your old favorites from the Wu (and its spin-offs) and Outkast. If you like electronica, you could also peruse the solid selection here. We're talking healthy doses of DJ Spooky, Musiq and Orbital, with more on vinyl. Expect to pay U.S. prices. Liquid Swords stings the wallet (and the mind) on both sides of the pond.
If you're not satisfied with all the names and aliases bantered around in hip-hop, maybe you should check out two scenes perhaps even more overstuffed and ridiculous: hard-core and punk. For both, go to Maximum Underground. I don't really dig stores that try to be counter-culture refueling stations - selling everything from clothes to bongs to decks and trucks, oh, and some music over there in the corner - but MU's selection is so varied I'll excuse its other excesses. Vinyl: Subhumans, Crass, The Misfits and, thank god, more than enough obscure crap to make Army boots for the approaching war. CDs: The Minutemen, Bane, Cable. The store may be hard to find, the staff may be snotty and the cover art (all cartoon porn) may be too much to stomach, but it's often necessary to be reminded that these two scenes are still dead and kicking.
If you're into classical, or 'classics' as the Czechs call it (is that John Denver on the oboe?), you can hoof it up to and across Staromestské Nám. (Old Town Square) and up Parížská. Isn't it nice to live in a town where even the shittiest hole in the wall has a Bruckner section? So why go to Philharmonia on Parížská and pay a little more? Selection, maestro, selection. Those Naxos discs are cheap because the performances are merely decent, and the collection - exhaustive rather than selective - leaves much to be desired. Instead, enjoy the excellent variety and atmosphere of Philharmonia. The staff are well-informed snobs: you know, those people you simultaneously look up to and down upon. But if you not only want the Gould variations but also the Jarrett variations, this is the place and these are the people to guide you.
The other great thing about Philharmonia - and any classical music store worth its weight in snuff - is that they acknowledge the concept of twentieth (and, now, even twenty-first) century 'classical.' Want the Schnittke complete string quartets? Will that be the Kronos or the TALE Quartet? Liner notes by Rostropovich, or Schnittke himself? Some cognac to drink with that? My only caveat is that you may want to dress up before going in here. Tuxedo, cassock, undertaker's suit - just not jeans and a t-shirt. They always look at me like I'm going to start plastering the walls with Moby posters.
If you'd rather avoid all the turned-up noses in this part of town and get back to normal musicians who name their songs, not number them, head up to the second-hand CD shop on Krakovská, at the top-right of Václavské Námesti. This place is the size of not one but three Skodas and offers a respectable selection. They, too, have heard of The Fall and Tricky and will fill your 1987-2001 rock and electronic needs. Remember, the CDs are used, but if that matters to you, go to Bonton and shell out a month's wages. The selection is limited and doesn't get too obscure (probably a blessing) and you'll find plenty of the crap nobody wants, as at all used places, but there are plenty of gems and, to quote a walking corpse, the price is right. There's another decent used Bazar on Karolíny Svetlé which complements the Krakovská store rather nicely. What they lack in less-commercial rock they make up for in used jazz (mostly the Duke, but I'm not saying that's bad) and classical. This place also has some used Czech videos, a few of which are porn but, alas, not anime porn.
Then hop over to Legerova and check out Radost, the CD shop wing of the club. This is the place to go if you're indie or, as Kool Keith said, an obsessed music industry fan who not only knows what bands are on Kranky!, Quarterstick and Capitol, but also who the A&R guys are. Looking for Wilco, Beulah or Grandaddy? Right this way. Costello, The Jam, The Fall? No problem. Hey, they even have a hip-hop section and a separate DJ section. Just don't ask any of the staff for help. They don't seem to be able to recall the bands to which entire sections are dedicated. Nick Cave and the who?
Finally, there's the long lost CD-LP Antiquariat located diagonally across from Tesco in that mess of a gallery with the 'Laser Game' sign above it. Antiquariat place is worth visiting, even if just to admire the cute girls who work behind the counter. Actually, this place is my favorite stop, even when I don't plan to do much buying (I left my turntable in Charm City). If you're a rocker or a beat-head and you dig vinyl (which, in both cases, should go without saying), this is your place. They've got 60s, they've got 70s, they've got 80s, and the vinyl even peeks into the 90s a bit, though in the bastardized form of late Cure and early Ugly Kid Joe. Still, if you have the time, there's tons of stuff here you can do something with. Flying Burrito Brothers Live anyone? Alas, they too have a section called "Black Music," but it's the size of my thumb. The real juice is in the near-mint jazz section: Coleman Hawkins and Benny Goodman sleep surprisingly snug in the bins.
If Antiquariat lacks anything, it's regular CDs. There are tons of bootlegs and, depending on your moral worth, this is either good or bad. I just can't help but rage when I see a Nirvana bootleg called "Final Solution" with Kurt on the cover holding a gun. I don't think the Potato-Skins/Doom addict who burned this had Pere Ubu in mind when he made the sleeve, though I could be wrong. But, on the good side, the place is a living Nuggets II box set! They seem to have everything that did and didn't make it on that great psych-rock compilation, both vinyl and disc. They also have a lot of Beatles, and there's not a Gorillaz disc to be found in the whole dang place
Alternative Christmas Shopping
We can help. Perhaps.
We may not have something for everyone but we've certainly got something for someone.
If all you want for Christmas is something a little bit out of the ordinary, check out a few of our suggestions.
Pernštejn Porter Beer
Czech beer is justifiably world renowned for its quality but, until recently, anyone wanting to give the gift of "pivo" had to make do with the limited offerings in their local supermarket. That all changes with Beer Shop, near Charles Bridge, which offers a wide range of bottled Czech beers plus mini-kegs and branded glassware. Now if only they sold gift baskets…
Czech football jersey Football Jerseys
Find something for the soccer fanatic in your life at Calcio CZ, a small shop near Karlové náměstí that stocks a range of official Czech national team, Slavia Praha, Viktoria Žižkov and Bohemians Praha merchandise. Fans of Czech champs Sparta Praha, meanwhile, are served by the official shop at the club's Toyota Arena stadium.
Devátá vlna Cool Clothes
There's more to clothes shopping in Prague than chain stores, Likvidace shops and mannequins with pointy nipples. For hip clubwear, check out Devátá vlna; For more retro styling, visit Mýrnyx Tyrnyx. Fans of skateboarding and snowboarding fashions, meanwhile, should check out homegrown brands such as Horsefeathers and Salebra in streetwear shops across town.
Kostelecké uzeniny logo Suggestive Sausages
Back in more innocent times, the logo of smoked-meat manufacturer Kostelecké uzeniny probably brought to mind nothing more than a hungry man tucking into a tasty sausage. These days, however, there's more than an element of sexual innuendo to the KU logo, which makes their products an unintentionally (?) humorous Christmas gift. The official website lists stores in Prague that stock a wide selection of KU goods, but tinned KU sausages are available from most Prague supermarkets.
Cheap CD Cheap Stuff
If you're short on cash, long on time or can't resist a bargain, the Levné knihy KMA discount bookstore chain makes addictive browsing. While most of the books on offer are in Czech, there's a bewildering and ever-changing range of other stuff on offer – anything from Dundee United Football Club calendars to cheesy German techno compilations to near-obsolete PC games. Leaving without buying something, if only for yourself, is near impossible.
Disko Duck Interior Decent Music
If you're fed up with Bonton megastore's prehistoric music selection, take a spin around a few of Prague's specialist record stores. Maximum Underground casts a wide net, covering punk, dance and hip-hop at its Old Town shop and via its mail-order business. Radost FX's record store covers a similar beat, and also takes in world music and jazz. Keep the vinyl junkie in your life sated at Disko Duck (mainly house) or Phonotic (mainly drum 'n' bass). For metal, seek out Hell's Bells in Anděl. And for a taste of the local alternative music scene try Periferie, a Prague 8 shop run by Czech indie Black Point Records.
Didgeridoos Ethnic Instruments
Make someone happy - and make their next-door neighbors very unhappy – by giving them a didgeridoo this Christmas. Walter Ramundo's small Old Town shop, Kahya Senegalensis sells instruments from around the world, including African "djembe" drums, along with other ethnic knick-knacks.
Juggling Balls Juggling Balls
And not just balls. For the enthusiastic tosser in your life, Prague 9's Happy End Juggling Shop offers all kinds of batons, sticks, and diablos, including flammable equipment for juggling with fire. For the less showy and more safety conscious, there's also a fine selection of yo-yos.
Where to shop
Prague's favorite shopping street begins at the foot of Wenceslas Square (Václavské Námĕstí) and is lined with lots of mid-range international retailers like Zara, Mango, Nike, and Benetton, along with plenty of independent shops and places to break for a snack. The majority of the strip is a pedestrian-only thoroughfare that has evolved into a daily parade of seeing and being seen. In the opposite direction, Na Příkopĕ becomes Národní, or National Street. Anchored by the Tesco department store, this is another strong candidate for binge-shopping, along with several good art galleries and plenty of interesting architecture.
Josefov
"Paris street" was laid-out at the turn of the last century with the idea of turning it into a kind of local Champs Elysée. Top-end international retailers took the bait and this tree-lined thoroughfare is now the swankiest stretch in town; home to Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Francesca Biasia, and the Czech home accessories store, Le Patio. Nearby, on the streets Dlouhá, Dušni and V Kolkovnĕ is emerging as a fashion district, attracting a clutch of the country's best-known designers, including Klára Nademlýnská, Tatiana, Timoure et Group, and Bohéme.
Metro: Staromĕstská
Old Town
The main street connecting Old Town Square and Námĕstí Republiky is one of the most touristed strips in town. Accordingly, shops here are all about gifts, including several crystal stores. The area between Old Town Square and Charles Bridge (Karlův Most) is riddled with small, winding streets that contain the city's highest concentration of shops. Stroll along Jilská, Liliova and Michalská, all the way down to Karoliny Svĕtlé, and you'll discover lots of wonderful places that most visitors miss.
Malá Strana
Malá Strana is not for destination shopping, but rather a beautiful and busy area full of "impulse stores" designed catch buyers unaware. There are a few alternative shops hidden away on Saská, and some finds amongst the touristy places on Nerudova and, thankfully, there are no chain stores, only locally-owned and operated shops selling everything from art and music to marionettes and home fashion.
Opening Hours
Most shops in central Prague are open Monday through Saturday from 9:30am to 7pm. Some close by 2pm on Saturday and Sunday, and many others don't open on Sunday at all.
Tax Refunds
Visitors from non-EU countries can reclaim up to 17% of the value-added tax (DPH) provided you spend at least 3000 Kč in a single store and stay in the Czech Republic for less than 30 days. Here's the drill: Pay the tax at the register, ask for a Tax-Free Shopping Cheque, and present it to customs officials at the airport along with the goods (to prove you're exporting them). Once past passport control, cash the cheque at the Tax-Free Refund office. There are refund offices at most major borders, and in cities across Europe as well. The refund program doesn't apply to art or antiques.

Boxing Betting Basics
Since the 18th century, boxing has been synonymous with betting, as the British defined the sport by making wagers available on either fighter and awarded prizes to the victors. Professional boxing as we know it today has grown tremendously and gone through good, bad and ugly stages, from its peak in the 1960s and 70s with the popularity of fighters like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard to the more recent downfall and corruption associated with the careers of Mike Tyson and Don King, respectively.
Despite its ups and downs, pro boxing still thrives in Las Vegas, the gambling capital of the world, where boxing odds are available in almost every sportsbook. This article will focus on the different wagering options you have with betting boxing and give you tips on understanding boxing odds, including what factors to consider before placing a wager.
Basics of Betting Boxing Sports bettors mostly enjoy boxing for its brutal nature and promotional build-up, with only the Super Bowl rivaling a major championship fight in terms of betting interest and media attention.
It's also very easy to place a bet on a boxing match, as you generally wager simply on who you think will win the fight or sometimes on the rare possibility of a draw, all based on money lines. If you are unclear about how money lines work, make sure to check out Reading and Understanding Money Lines.
Here's an example:
Favorite: -170 (bet $170 to win $100)
Underdog: +150 (bet $100 to win $150)
Draw: +800 (bet $100 to win $800)
In addition, some sportsbooks offer boxing proposition bets, including how many rounds you think the fight will go (i.e. Over/Under 8.5 rounds), increasing the amount of potential action even further. Other popular prop bets for betting boxing include:
- Picking the specific round the fight will end
- A parlay-type wager combining two bets picking the winner of the fight and how the fight will be decided, either by decision or knockout
There is also big money involved in fight rematches, so it shouldn't be too surprising when an up-and-coming contender like Jermain Taylor knocks off a champion who hasn't lost in more than 10 years like Bernard Hopkins ( Taylor beat Hopkins by split decision on June 16, 2005 for the undisputed world middleweight crown). Some boxing contracts even have "rematch clauses" in them to guarantee another money-making fight, with Taylor-Hopkins being one of them.
"I'm not going to say decisions are good for boxing," Hopkins said following his loss to Taylor . "But rivalries are."
Hopkins is right: Rivalries can bring in tons of money for the sport and make it much easier to market. The drama and intrigue created around a rivalry is what makes team sports so great, and some of the most memorable fights have been tied to rivalries.
Another key point we can make using the Hopkins-Taylor fight as an example is that the popular fighter (in this case the favorite and defending champion) is generally over-rated and over-priced due to his status of being more well-known with the public. Because of this popularity factor, challengers like Taylor have great value and are worth betting on.
It's also important to note that boxing matches have more inflated money line prices than most sports, creating a huge dog/fave money line differential between the favorite and underdog. For this reason, you should be aware that boxing odds at different sportsbooks vary, so shopping around online sportsbooks will get you the most bang for your betting buck.
For example, "Online Sportsbook A" might have had Hopkins at -200 and Taylor at +180 while "Online Sportsbook B" had Hopkins at -220 and Taylor at +160. A $1000 wager on Taylor at "Online Sportbook A" would have earned you $1800 compared to $1600 at "Online Sportsbook B" where you would also need to lay down more money if you bet on Hopkins . As you can see, "Online Sportsbook B" is the worse place to bet for favorite and underdog bettors alike because the dog/fave money line differential is greater.
Finding the right online sportsbook for betting boxing should also be determined by who has the most wagering offerings, including propositions. There are several advantages to betting boxing at elite online sportsbooks, but first and foremost, you will get better boxing lines and more ways to bet a fight.
Conversely, the stereotypical barroom bookie will have slim pickings and rather unattractive boxing odds (if he has them at all), very similar to the "Online Sportsbook B" example from above, because he knows he is your only option. Therefore, it definitely pays to explore online sportsbooks, who want you to play with confidence and try to give you a simple and safe environment in which to do so.
If you are a knowledgeable boxing fan who has a good feel about how a match will likely turn out, then you should most definitely trust your insights and use them to find strong bets. Like an up-and-coming prize fighter, experience and comfort level is crucial to your training as a boxing bettor, so study up on boxers as much as you can. Of course it's up to you to decide which fighter you want to bet on, but the more you learn about boxing, the more prepared you will be when placing your bet. Hopefully after reading our "Basics of Betting Boxing" and "Betting Tips for Success" you'll be ready to step into the ring (or betting window) in the near futureHaving Your Wedding at a Marriott Hotel

Horse Breeds: Which Types of Horses Would Suit You Best
For centuries, horses have been one of the most popular domesticated animals. While today, people enjoy riding and racing them, in the past they were domesticated because they were the primary mode of transportation for many.
People from almost every corner of the globe have owned horses for one reason or another, and it is for this reason that there are now so many different breeds. However, all horses fall into one of three main categories: pony, light, and heavy classifications. If you are unfamiliar with horse breeds, this is a good starting place.
From this point, some people like to further classify horses into the subcategories such as draft horses, gaited horses, and warmbloods. So these are terms that you might hear when people talk of horse breeds. But for all intents and purposes, we will stick with the three main categories for this article.
Knowing about these different breeds might give you an idea of what kind of horse will be best for your situation – and will let you in on which horses are good for children, which are good for the whole family to ride, which ones are good for racing, and which ones will help out on the ranch.
Pony Breeds
The smallest of the popular pony breeds is the Shetland Pony, and for this reason, it is often the first horse given to children. While the Shetland is usually sweet and relaxed, this breed can, on occasion, get feisty. So no matter what breed of pony, children need to be supervised with horses of any kind.
The Connemara Pony, is larger than the Shetland, and for this reason, often makes a great pony for older children. Another good breed for this young adults and young teens is the Welsh Pony, which is just a little bit larger than the Connemara.
Light Breeds
People often mistake the Miniature Horse for a pony, but it is not classified as one because it does not have the same characteristics as those of the pony breed. This light breed horse is often a companion for children as well as a guide for the disabled.
One of the most loved horse breeds around falls into the category of Light Horses – the Arabian. These horses are not only attractive, but in general, are also known for being sweet, loving, graceful, and speedy. Everything about this horse seems to be perfect – from its kind nature to its speed and endurance while racing.
A descendent of the Arabian, the Thoroughbred, is another popular light breed. This horse is quite fast, so it makes for a great racing horse. Because of this, this breed of horse can be quite expensive. If you are looking for a horse for the family, though, this might not be the best choice since these can be too fast and dangerous for inexperienced riders.
If you are looking for a horse that could help out on a farm or a ranch rounding up cattle, or for a tough horse that can compete in races and competitions, then you may want a Quarter Horse. This is an American horse breed that got its name for being able to race at a good pace for a quarter of a mile. It is a pretty tough breed, but also good for taking on a leisurely ride.
A smaller horse that is also family-friendly as well as hard working is the Morgan Horse. A man named Justin Morgan, who was amazed by the strength and loving nature of his little horse, developed the Morgan breed. This breed has a strong body with a friendly disposition.
Other popular light horse breeds include the Paint, the Standardbred, the Appaloosa, the Saddlebred, the Tennessee Walking Horse, and the Paso Fino.
Heavy Breeds
There are two types of heavy horses: horses that were once used in battle and draft horses. The warhorses went through tough training to ready them for battle, while the draft horses were used to work on farms or to pull carts and wagons.
The Percheron is a smaller heavy horse, but still quite powerful. This horse breed is intelligent and has a friendly nature, so it is easier to train than others, and can be a good animal for the family or the farm. However, if color is important to you, you might note that it only comes in gray or black.
The most famous of the draft horses is probably the Clydesdale. This attractive horse has been bred to do hard work, but it also has a friendly nature, so it makes for a good horse to ride on, too.
Some other popular draft breeds include the Belgian, and then the rarer Shire and Suffolk Punch breeds.
Of the war horse breeds, the Lipizzaner is the probably most famous. This is most likely because these horses often travel around doing performances for Austrian events.
As you can see, there are many breeds to choose from, and hopefully this will give you some idea of what type you are looking for. The best thing to do, however, is to see how different horses interact with you individually when shopping for a horse for you and possibly for your family.

There are commercially zoned lots, residential lots, manufactured home lots, and even horse properties. Not only do these areas have land for sale for home builders, but for the shopping, entertainment, and recreation needs as well.
Newcomers to the area looking for Tucson land for sale for a home or a business need to be aware of certain features of the land in the Tucson area. As Tucson is a desert, the soil is sandy and may have to be treated if you want to landscape with grass. Many homes and businesses use desert landscaping to conserve water. However, when it rains, because of the sandy soil and poor drainage, washes that were dry for years can become flooded. Your Tucson land for sale should be carefully inspected for flooding danger.
You will also need to be aware of any easements, liens or deed restrictions on the Tucson land for sale you are considering purchasing. An easement is something on your property that is used by another individual or business. An example would be a neighbor’s driveway that goes through your property. A lien is the same as on a home or car. If there are outstanding judgments or debts on the home, they will need to be cleared up before you buy. A deed restriction is something that a seller stipulates. They say how the Tucson land for sale can and cannot be used.
When you are looking to purchase land for your home or business in Tucson, a realtor can help to guide you through the process to help you avoid any mistakes. Find a realtor that specializes in land buying and you can be more confident that the purchase you are making is a wise one and a good investmentGuidelines in Choosing Your Custom Triathlon Apparel
There must be some reasons why when it comes to triathlon apparels, it is purely a personal preference of the racer. Well, of course team uniforms mark the exemption. Depending on the agreement or the rulings as imposed by a team, racers are issued or mandated with a single type of uniform. In general, however competitors are allowed with their choice.
One theory is to give allowance to the comfort level of the racer himself or to provide him some freedom in choosing his own apparel. Being able to decide for your personal suit and gears would do good in making the race more endurable, considering that it is composed of three disciplined endurance games.
And what more may be better than having your custom triathlon apparel?
Yes, there may be some good triathlon shops both offline and online that may provide you with their best wetsuits, shorts and tops and accessories. However, there simply are no standard sizes that would perfectly fit every racer. We all have our unique anatomies. And being so particular with the fitting of your apparel would surely create some troubles when shopping for one.
Custom triathlon apparels may not give you everything that you would desire in a suit however, it can provide most of the things that you must have. A perfect fit, materials that are of your personal selection and a design that you actually helped conceptualized. It's just so personal.
If you would not want running, swimming or biking next to a person wearing the same wetsuit or shorts as you have then save troubles by customizing your triathlon apparel.
Custom triathlon apparels are not only for the solo flighters. Actually, most team uniforms are either bought by bulk or custom made. Thus, the effect of having an identity that covers the idea of a single group. It's just a matter of choosing your own or your team's design or allow a professional to take all troubles for you.
With customized triathlon apparel, you may have a better sense of confidence for which you may cling to in case everything else fails. The belief of being an individual running race against everyone else and a race for himself. Or a team being unified with a single personality earning points and a common confidence that will help lead each member to the desired goal.
If you are doubtful where to contact manufacturers of customized triathlon apparel be assured that help is just a click of your mouse away.

Sword buying can be a very confusing process. There are thousands of sellers, hundreds of manufacturers, and a dozen different types of metals that swords are made out of. But you shouldn’t worry too much about any of this. If this is your first sword then you should make it a pleasurable experience by getting the sword that looks and feels right for you. If you stick with a reputable seller then the sword should be of a good quality that will give you many years of worry free enjoyment and maybe even start you on a sword collecting hobby.
Get your hands on some swords if possible
First and foremost you should, if possible, visit a retail or wholesale store that has a wide variety of swords that you can actually hold and handle. If this means taking a twenty-five mile trip in the car then it is worth the time and effort. Bring with you a small notebook so you can take notes about the different swords you like and write down the different manufacturers and model numbers so you can do some online comparison shopping for price bargains. It is important to actually hold the sword and see it because the feel of a sword is difficult to convey on a website.
If you are going to buy a sword online
If you cannot visit a place that sells swords and you absolutely have to buy one online here are a couple of things you should do. Make very careful note of the weight of the sword then get yourself something that weighs the same and hold it in your hands. You will be surprised how this feels and there is a very big difference between a sword that weighs two pounds and one that weighs four pounds. You should also note the length of the sword then use a measuring tape to get a feel for the actual size of it. I would recommend you even cut a piece of cardboard into the shape and size of the sword you are thinking about buying. You can hold this cardboard mock up, swing it around and even pin it to the wall to get an idea of how it will look on display.
Deciding why you want a sword
The first and foremost decision you have to make is why you want the sword. This will greatly help you in choosing your first sword. There are two main reasons I will describe here. If you want a sword to hang on the wall as a display piece that you occasionally take down to show to friends then you should look for a sword that comes with a wall mount display or a rack display all in one package. Because medieval swords come in many different shapes, sizes, weights, and lengths buying a sword then trying to match it up with a rack can be a tricky process. I recommend you get a sword that comes with the rack or wall mount.
If you want a sword to wear as part of a costume or as an accompaniment to Renaissance Festival and Role Playing events then you should get a sword that comes with a belt and scabbard. Again, because swords come in a tremendous variety of sizes, finding a scabbard can be a very difficult task.
Narrow your decision down to one of the three basic types of Medieval Swords.
Because there are thousands of different swords you should figure out which of the three main types of swords you want to get.
* Replicas of original swords– You may want to get a sword that is a replica of an authentic sword such as a Scottish claymore, Samurai sword, or Spanish rapier.
* Movie Replicas: - You may want to get a sword that you have seen in a movie and Lord of the Rings swords are very popular.
* Fantasy Swords – These swords can have a very creative look, often times they have intricate handles and unique blade shapes.
So now you have narrowed you selection down to the use of the sword and the type of sword and you are ready to start looking at actually purchasing a sword. Here are some guidelines to help you make a good purchase.
New or used?
I recommend you only purchase a new sword from a reputable retailer. This way you have an ironclad guarantee that if there are any problems with the sword. You can just send it back and try another sword. The big online retailers such as Amazon or Overstock are perfectly suited to this. And if you find yourself looking at lesser-known sites or weapons specialty sites there are a few things you should look for. Does the site have the hacker safe guaranteed logo? Does it have a clearly posted customer support telephone number you can call?
Do your research and shop around before you buy
The Internet has brought with it the ability to gather information from a lot of different resources. Search the web for sites, forums, and articles on swords and the particular sword you want to buy. Take lots of notes so you can make an informed decision.
Swords have a two thousand year history and there are many manufacturers, sellers, collectors, and experts of swords. But when it comes down to your first sword you should decide on the sword that is going to make you happy and not worry about all the details that can easily cloud your decision. Get a sword that looks and feels right for you and get it from an established and well-know retailer and you will have a sword that will bring you years of enjoyment and maybe even start you off on a new hobby.

A Review of Popular Baseball Gloves
When shopping for a new baseball glove, one has many brands, styles and fits to choose from. Companies make many gloves from various materials that can cost as little as $10 or as much as $250 for a custom made glove. The following is a brief review of companies that offer some of the best gloves on the market.
Rawlings Baseball Gloves
Perhaps the best-known and respected baseball glove is manufactured by Rawlings. Rawlings baseball gloves have been a favorite of amateurs and professionals for over eight years. They are most admired for their comfort and safety features as well as the range of prices. You can purchase the most expensive line of gloves for $300 or so, but Rawlings baseball gloves also come in cheaper versions, sometimes for $10 or less.
Nike Baseball Gloves
Nike is probably best known for its athletic shoes and other lines of athletic clothing. The company, however, has recently begun to manufacture its own line of baseball gloves. The Nike baseball glove has been gaining tremendous popularity in recent years. The most popular baseball gloves by Nike are the "Pro Gold" and "SDR" lines. The Pro Gold gloves are top of the line and usually retail for $100 or more, while the SDR baseball gloves start at around $60. Perhaps the best feature of Nike baseball gloves is the ""dry finger"" liner inside each glove which helps to keep fingers cool and reduce perspiration during play.
Mizuno Baseball Gloves
Mizuno baseball gloves are another popular brand in America. They are even more popular for Asian baseball players. This company offers at least 11 different styles of gloves, with a wide price range. The ""Pro Limited"" series can cost up to $250, but Mizuno baseball gloves are also available in cheaper models for around $20.
Nokona Baseball Gloves
Most baseball glove experts will agree that Nokona offers the best and highest quality gloves available to consumers. These are American-made gloves from Texas and the company has been manufacturing them since the early 20th century. The least expensive line of Nokona baseball gloves usually starts at around $125 and higher-end gloves can cost much more. In addition to leather baseball gloves, Nokona also offers gloves made from buffalo and kangaroo hides.

Motor Homes, RVs and Recreational Vehicles in Idaho
Another great drive is from Hailey Idaho to Missoula Montana, which takes you through the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and along the Salmon River. Another wonderful place in Idaho is Twin Falls and the falls are truly spectacular. Idaho Falls also has some neat scenery and a National Park Interpretive Center with listings of all the campgrounds and great places to see, as Idaho borders the Yellowstone National Park.
Northern Idaho is very cool and you will want to stop in Coeur d Alene. There is an Indian museum down the road and the downtown area is extremely exciting. The old hotel on the water is still there and the view is breathtaking. I recommend that anyone who travels in an RV that they go and check out Idaho. Please consider this in 2006.
Recreation with Online Backgammon
Backgammon is a fun game that takes two persons to play it. It’s a board game that combines concentration and focus. It is somehow like chess. The basic principle is that you alternatively move the pieces on the squares of the board and try to get them from one part of it to the other. Each player has a color and he has to take into consideration when he makes the moves. The first one that gets all his pieces from one part of the board to the other and aligns them is the winner. These rules make online backgammon a very simple game that doesn’t involve as much thinking or strategizing like chess does. It is accessible to both children (who can learn from it) and to experts who play backgammon for money.
Online backgammon is one of the best ways to play this game for a number of different reasons. All you have to do is access any search engine on the Internet and search for sites which allow you to play backgammon. Online backgammon is more fun because it doesn’t have any of the inconveniences of the real life game. When you will take the decision to play online backgammon you will realize that it is one of the best moves you can make, especially if you’re a fan of the game. If you think it’s more difficult to play online, you are wrong. Any site that allows you to play online backgammon has specific instructions on how to follow some rules and enjoy yourself as well so, it will be easier than you ever imagined. A way to have fun, easier and faster is just a mouse click away from you.
Playing online backgammon is better and more fun than the real life game because it has more advantages and none of the disadvantages. The first problem that’s taken care of is the lack of a partner. If you want to play backgammon at home or in the park face to face with your opponent, you need a real life person because it’s a two player game. Playing online backgammon means that you don’t necessarily need another person to adjust his/her program and to make time to play with you. Having a virtual opponent means you will play against the computer. You can play against a real person even if you play online. There are certain online game rooms where a lot of people go to play several games they are passionate about with other people.
A disadvantage of the real life game is that you escape the time problem. Even if you have an opponent there’s always a possibility he will get bored and that can mean the game may stop or continue unpleasantly. When playing online backgammon you are the only one that decides when the game will end and how long it will last. Online, you can play 24/7 and you don’t have to worry about the missing pieces or about replacing everything in order when you’re done. Another fun thing with playing online backgammon is that nowadays the special sites have become more and more entertaining. One can have fun only by accessing the site without even playing the game. A problem with this type of game is that it is very attractive and captures attention for hours keeping the player in front of the computer. This way it discourages communication between people. Backgammon is a social game and, because it takes two persons to play, the two opponents have the chance to socialize and exchange ideas. However, online backgammon teaches you to focus on your target and obtain the desired results. Games like these are very useful for developing learning abilities like attention, perseverance and competition. They can even be a great encouragement for mathematical talents.
Playing online backgammon one can gain experience and probably get better at this game than the friends who don’t train themselves with a computer. This way the world of tournaments opens itself. Backgammon competitions are organized for those who are interested in challenges. Online backgammon tournaments are very popular nowadays for two reasons: respect and money. While in real life very few play backgammon for money there is a whole different story with online games. There are many who get addicted to playing online backgammon for money. Gambling is practiced by a lot of people today who are in search of new ways to earn money. They forget the main reason they wanted to win in the first and stop having fun. Playing backgammon for money can be considered a form of gambling. A paid account can be made on sites that accept online backgammon for money and the sum one pays is considered to be for betting. Playing backgammon for money is actually a good idea if you are an expert. There is no point in throwing money out the window so you shouldn’t play backgammon for money if you aren’t familiar with the game and the rules of the site. However, if you know you can win, why not earn some money and have fun at the same time?
It doesn’t matter in the end if you play backgammon for money or just for fun. It is a great way to spend your time with friends or home, by yourself and learn about some virtues like patience and perseverance. Backgammon is a very old and appreciated game with a life that has only brought joy to its players. Its existence will continue to bring joy to those who play online backgammon because it is now available everywhere through the facilities of the Internet at the simple click of a button.

Things To Consider Before Buying A Recreation Vehicle
A good example of this is a couple I once had shopping for a travel trailer. The one thing they were sure of was that they wanted bunk beds for their three young children. I had several floor plans available on the lot, with bunk beds, to choose from. I showed them the first model and a few moments later they were convinced that this was the trailer for them. The husband liked the pass through storage compartment that could accommodate his fishing gear and the wife fell in love with the interior colors and décor. They purchased the trailer and I saw them at the dealership after they used it for the first time. They told me all about their first trip and how fun it was, but said they wish they would have given more thought to the floor plan before they bought it. The living room was on one end of the trailer, the kitchen was in the middle, and the bunk beds and bathroom were on the other end. She told me the kids were constantly going from one end to the other and she could never get anything done in the kitchen.
This is just one example, but I'm sure you get the picture. Sometimes we get caught up in the excitement and make hasty decisions that we regret later. Purchasing an RV is a major investment, similar to buying a house. It is after all your home away from home and we need to slowwww down the buying process and make informed decisions.
I'm not really sure where to begin. I guess the best place to start is with the dealership. You need to find a reputable RV dealer that is willing to take care of you after the sale. If at all possible talk to some one that has dealt with them before. A reputable dealer wants your business and they want you to return to them for future business. I have been in many dealerships that I wouldn't hesitate to do business with and I have been in others that I couldn't leave soon enough. Don't be afraid to ask them to give you a tour of the dealership. Look at the service department. Do they have certified technicians? Do they have the capability and facilities to do routine maintenance and warranty work on the units they sell? Look at their Parts and Accessory department. Do they offer a good selection of parts and accessories? Do they have a good selection of RVs to choose from? How long have they been selling certain manufacturer brands?
A reputable RV dealer will in most cases have a reputable, professional sales staff to assist you. If you feel comfortable with the dealership and would like to look at some of the RVs on the lot it's time to find a salesperson. This is not difficult because they will usually find you first. It is extremely important that you feel comfortable with the sales person. If you don't, ask to speak to some body else. Don't be afraid to help the sales person help you. What I mean by this is, tell them what your needs are, what you want and how you plan to use it. If you're going to buy a towable RV and you already have the tow vehicle ask them to explain the weights to you and to show you which RVs are in your weight range. A knowledgeable sales person can be a real asset, especially if you are new to RVing. If you prefer to look by yourself ask them for their business card and write down any questions you have so you can ask them later.
I mentioned a moment ago that you should have some idea of what your needs are, what you want, and how you plan to use it. This is extremely important. Review manufacturer brochures and websites for pertinent information that can assist you in making informed buying decisions. Here are a few things to consider before you buy.
* >What type of RV is best suited for you and your family?
* What type of floor plan will work best for you and your family?
* Do you plan to travel cross-country with the RV or is it going to be set up at one location and left there?
* If you're going to be towing the RV is the tow vehicle capable of handling the weight of the RV and do you have the proper hitch work to safely tow it?
* How many people will be in the RV and what are the sleeping requirements?
* Is there enough seating space?
* Do you need a slide out(s) for additional living space? If you get slide outs how is the RV interior affected when they are in the stored, travel position?
* Is their enough outside storage, and are the storage compartments large enough to accommodate what you plan to take?
* Is there enough closet, cabinet and drawer space for all of your personal belonging?
* Are there enough cabinets and drawers in the kitchen? Don't forget about the pots and pans.
* How much counter space does it have in the kitchen? Is it enough?
* Where is the dinette table in relation to the range, oven and the refrigerator? Does it make sense?
* How does the bed feel when you lay down? Is it long enough and wide enough?
* Can you walk around the entire bed or is it built into the corner of the walls?
* Are there windows where you want windows?
* Is the refrigerator large enough?
* Can you reach the microwave?
* Is the A/C ducted throughout the unit? If not will it cool the entire unit?
* Do you prefer a split bathroom where the shower is separate, or a bathroom where everything is together?
* Can you stand up in the shower?
* Is the bathroom large enough?
* Can you sit on the toilet?
* How much fresh water can you take with you? Is it enough?
* How large are the gray water and black water holding tanks? Are they large enough for the way you plan to use the RV?
* How much LP gas does it hold? Is it enough for how you plan to use the RV?
* Is the RV to big or to small for your needs?
* If you want a motor home drive it before you buy it.
If you're towing a vehicle behind the motor home what are the weight limits?
* What type of electrical service does the RV have, 30 Amp or 50 Amp?
* Do you need a generator?
* If equipped with a TV where is it located in relation to the seating arrangements?
* How many TV outlets do you want?
* Do you need a phone jack?
* Does the RV have an awning? If so, where is it situated, does it interfere with any storage compartments or windows etc?
* How long is the warranty on the RV? Do you need extended coverage to protect your investment?
* How is the RV constructed?
* If it's a travel trailer / 5th wheel do you prefer a corrugated aluminum or fiberglass exterior? How hard is it to keep clean?
* If you're buying a motor home do you want gas or diesel? Which type is more practical for how you plan to use it?
This list is not all-inclusive but it should help you make a more informed decision before you purchase an RV. Another important consideration is the options on the RV. When a dealer orders an RV they order the options that they feel will help sell the RV based on their experience. On the other hand they can limit the options to make the price more appealing, but it may be some options that you really want or need. Sit down with your sales person and review what options are on the RV and what options are available. If you found a floor plan that you really like but it's not equipped the way you want have the dealer order one for you. I know that waiting is difficult, but remember slowww down, it will be worth the wait to get the RV you really want.
Recreation and Your Need for Insurance
It’s often said that baseball is America’s favorite past time; however, Americans have all sorts of recreational activities they enjoy. What kind of recreation do you enjoy during your free time? Perhaps you like to play sports at your local park, or go surfing at your nearby beach. Maybe you’re an adventurer and enjoy rock and mountain climbing, or maybe you’d rather spend a nice quiet evening at home, hacking away at your computer on your latest novel.
Whatever happens to be your recreation of choice, you definitely need to make sure you have sufficient health insurance (even typists get carpal tunnel!), and perhaps even life insurance.
Jumping out of airplanes and parachuting to the ground is undoubtedly a freeing and exhilarating experience; however, everyone who has ever engaged in this particular recreation has to admit that the thought of serious injury or death – or both – has crossed their minds at least a couple of times. By making sure you have a good health insurance policy intact, you won’t have to worry about financial distress if you should find yourself in physical distress due to your risky recreation.
The same is true for having a life insurance policy. No one likes to think about dying, especially dying during a recreation they enjoy such as racing down the streets on their Harley’s or climbing the mountains with their ATVs. However, dying is a fact of life, and these dangerous recreations can unfortunately speed up the process. If you just can’t give up your Hog, it’s definitely time to start thinking about purchasing a life insurance policy. Your beneficiaries will be too grief stricken to deal with financial worries, as well.
Everyone likes to have fun, but certain kinds of fun can be dangerous and even fatal. In the event that your recreation takes a wrong turn, make sure you’re protected by health insurance, and your family is protected by life insuranceBeach Vacation
There’s nothing like lying on a sun-drenched beach, lying down under the shade of a palm tree with a warm sweet breeze soothing you and a nearby waiter bringing you pina colada cocktails and fresh seafood. It’s a slice of heaven on earth. It doesn’t matter where the beach is – Hawaii, Florida, France, the Bahamas, Greece, Spain or anywhere in the Pacific. – as long as you can see the relaxing waves on the ocean and soak up the sun. It’s an image worthy of a dream vacation.
So what’s keeping you? For lots of people, it’s the prohibitive cost of staying at a beachfront hotel. The expensive costs of these places is enough to prevent many from pursuing their dream beach vacation. But there are other ways, too. One of the alternatives that will help you save yet still retain that beach front location is through beach vacation rentals.
They are clean, well-furnished and comfortable, and there’s nothing that beats their proximity to the beach. Besides, living in someone’s home does have its advantages over renting an expensive single room at a hotel. For one thing, you have more bedrooms to occupy, lots more room for entertaining and what-not, as well as kitchen facilities. For an entire family, beach vacation rentals can mean substantial savings.
If you think looking for a viable beach vacation venue to rent is a difficult task then it is my pleasure to correct you. Perhaps the easiest way it to get in touch with a real estate agency in the city you are eyeing for your vacation. These agencies often have a listing of available beach vacation rentals, complete with photographs, rental rates and other pertinent information. You may even try to find and communicate with these real estate agencies online.
Another way is to surf the city websites of the place that you plan to visit since these usually have business directories that list everything from your neighbourhood barber to the fanciest restaurants in town. Of course, the real estate agents and agencies will be listed there as well and, if you’re lucky, so too will a roster of available beach rentals. Hey, if you can avoid using a real estate agent, then that’s extra savings to spend on the beach, right?
Most beach rentals are for a week or less and, if you are planning to stay longer, you can probably get a discount on your rental rate. Some of these rentals even offer a staff that will cater to your every needFlight Training for Recreational Aviation
There are two types of certificates available for the beginning pilot. These certificates., called licenses, are the recreational pilot or the private pilot license. Although there are many similarities between the two, there are also some significant differences. The recreational pilot is generally restricted to a fifty mile radius of his home airport. He also may not fly at night, nor may he fly in air space requiring communication with air traffic control. The advantages of the recreational license are a shorter training time, thirty hours compared to forty for the private pilot, and this translates into a major cost savings. The major reason for the reduced training time is that instrument flying, and air traffic control communication training is left out. It is important to note that it is easy to upgrade from the recreational to the private pilot license , and usually involves merely making up the deleted hours of training.
Both licenses have the following minimum requirements:
You must be 16 years of age in order to fly solo
You must be at least 17 to get the private pilot license
You must be able to read, speak, and understand English
You must have a minimum of a third class medical certificate
There are some other limitations that need to be considered when selecting the recreational license. You may only fly during the day, and then in only good weather. You also may not fly over 10,000 feet, however, the FAA is usually understanding if you happen to have a 11,000 foot mountain in your path. You also are limited to single engine planes with less than 180 horsepower engines, and only up to four seats. Two of those seats are going to stay empty, as you are not allowed to have more than one passenger.
Although this seems to be fairly restrictive, it is not such a bad deal as far as training is concerned, and puts flying within the reach of just about anyone with a serious interest in learning to do it. Most areas are going to have a training school nearby. The training schools are going to also have aircraft of the required size available for training purposes or for rental after the certificate is earned. The schools will provide all the pilot supplies, and aircraft supplies that are needed as well.
Once the recreational pilot has completed his training, he will be able to take short flights from time to time. Flying like any other skill requires practice, and until the pilot has logged at least 400 hours of solo flying, he is required to make three take offs and three landings every ninety days in order to be allowed to take passengers.
Flying is an exhilarating activity, and it is not that far out of the reach of the average person. It is also a very dangerous activity, and the margin of error is not that high. The first and most important step to insure the safety of yourself, and those who may fly with you, is good training. Cost and the availability of good aviation supplies are an important consideration in selecting a flight training school, but a good reputation is even better. Make your choice as if your life depends on making the right one.
Skiing Exercises for Recreational Skiers
The ultimate body for an expert skier is powerful, from strong ankles to strong shoulders, and every finely-tuned muscle in between. Remember the last time you watched someone effortlessly weave through a mogul field and wondered, "How does he do that?" It's partly due to practice, and partly to the body awareness and balance that strength training provides. The expert skier, who is physically strong, instinctively cues every part of his or her body. A fit body is like a well-tuned sports car. It handles effortlessly, acting on subtle intuitions.
Skiing requires a number of athletic abilities including technical, physical, and mental skills. This article is all about the physical requirements of expert skiing. Future articles will deal with the technical aspects of all-terrain skiing, as well as establishing the right mind set. But first, to ski strong you need to be strong.
Why do ski exercises?
If you think skiing exercises are just for serious skiers, think again. Strong muscles improve every skier's performance, whether he or she is a beginner, intermediate, advanced, or expert skier. For those who feel they’ve reached a plateau in their skiing ability, ski exercises may provide the boost you need to reach the next level.
Few sports are as physically demanding as downhill skiing, especially skiing on moguls, in trees, and down steeps. Yet, many skiers hit the slopes after little or no training in the preseason. They pay for it with sore muscles, but that's only the beginning. The lack of good physical fitness also increases the chances of injury. The most common ski injuries are joint related, and the best way to protect joints is by building muscle. Strong muscles stabilize your joints and, in turn, enable you to control your skis.
In light of the above, this article focuses on building the muscle groups around the joints that skiing taxes the most, including the knees, hips, and ankles. For the knee and ankle joints, we’ll be dealing with the upper leg muscles, including the quads and hamstrings, as well as the lower leg muscles, most noticeably the calves and Achilles tendons. For the hip joints, we’ll be concerned with the core, namely, the hip flexors, glutes, abdominals, groin, and lower back muscles.
Doing the downhill skiing exercises on a regular basis will make your skiing a lot easier, as well as take your skill set to the next level, because you will:
* Build muscle strength in your legs, core, and upper body
* Enhance muscle endurance and staying power for those long runs that never seem to end
* Increase your cardiovascular endurance so you can ski all day long
* Improve your stability and balance in all types of terrain and snow conditions
* Help your foot-to-foot quickness in the tight, tree runs
* Add explosive power for those short, intensive bursts in the mogul fields
* Avoid sore muscles, injuries, and spills
When should you do ski exercises?
Exercising can be done any time you feel like it. However, in the context of the sport of downhill skiing, I recommend you begin exercising at home, two to three months prior to the start of the ski season. If your season kicks off in December, try to begin your preseason conditioning program in late September.
Exercising in the Preseason
However, if you’re already involved in a ski-related conditioning program during the summer months, you’ll be able to shorten you’re fall program from three months to about six weeks. In addition, you should do your ski exercises on three nonconsecutive days each week. This will allow 48 hours between successive work-outs. The muscle groups will have plenty of time to recover.
Does this seem like a lot of work? At first, it will be. But after your first runs of the season, you'll be amazed at how much easier it is to link smooth, short-radius turns from top-to-bottom, all day long. You’ll look back up the hill and smile, knowing that your exercise program in the fall was well worth the effort. You will have cleared the first hurdle on the road to expert skiing. Physically, you will now be much stronger!
Exercising during the Season
Strenuous activities like downhill skiing, especially at the expert level, promote tightness and inflexibility in the muscle groups. Therefore, stretching before and after skiing will keep you flexible and help prevent common injuries. Should you do the ski exercises after the season starts?
Yes, definitely. After the season starts you can catch up and get in sync by doing the exercises during the week when you’re not out skiing. If you ski on Saturday and/or Sunday, do the skiing exercises on Tuesdays and Thursdays. By exercising throughout the season, as well as skiing, you’ll accelerate the strength building process, and your performance will show a marked improvement.
Exercising in the Postseason
By exercising in the postseason you will maintain your fitness level that you worked hard to implement in the preseason. Aspiring expert skiers need to impart continuity in their conditioning programs throughout the year. Once you become strong, you need to stay strong.
In addition, by participating in a ski-related exercise program from June to September, you’ll be able to ramp up much more quickly in the fall. The summer is also a good time to improve your cardiovascular endurance.
The Five Essentials of Ski-Specific Exercising
Flexibility, cardio, strength, balance, and power are the five essential elements for the expert skier to master. Let’s consider each one of these requirements in turn.
Flexibility: Your range of motion or mobility is of prime importance. Stretching to maintain muscle elasticity, which decreases with age, is vital for skiing. Stretching for skiers will not be covered here, as we have already dealt with this subject in a previous article entitled Ski Fitness for Recreational Skiers.
Cardiovascular Endurance: Aerobic capacity is very important to skiers so they have the stamina to ski in the expert zones, and the endurance to ski all day long. If you wish to improve your cardiovascular fitness, try one of the following activities on three nonconsecutive days per week. Perhaps it would be best to do your cardiovascular routine on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and your strength, balance, and power exercises on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
* Lap swimming, 25 laps to begin with, increase to 50 laps
* Brisk walking for at least 30 minutes, preferably 45 minutes
* Jogging, 15 to 20 minutes, but no more
* Rowing machine, 15 to 20 minutes
* Treadmill, 15 to 20 minutes
* Cross-country skiing
* Cycling, short sprints are best
* Inline skating, long distances and short sprints are best
Strength and Endurance: Muscular strength improves the expert skier's ability to relax, yet still maintain control, and to handle the quick adjustments needed in all-terrain skiing. The movements in alpine skiing include all the major muscle groups, so total body muscular strength is of prime importance. You'll want to do exercises that strengthen your entire body.
With this in mind, target the following ski exercises and muscle groups:
* Essential exercises for the legs - quadriceps, hamstrings, hips, calves, and ankles
* Essential exercises for the center – abdominals, hip flexors, glutei, and lower back
Stability and Balance: Why should you care about balance? Well, for starters, it’s the basic skill needed in practically every sport. Changing your center of gravity to match your moves is the key to efficiency in sport. Good balance can help you keep your form when you encounter changing terrain and snow conditions. The result is better skiing and fewer spills.
Slight deviations in terrain often require subtle adjustments in your balance to avoid injury. To enhance your stability and balance, target the following muscle groups:
* Essential exercises for the center – abdominals, hip flexors, glutei, and lower back
Fortunately, the exercises that help improve stability and balance work to build muscle strength and endurance in the core, all at the same time. This can be seen if you look back at the previous topic, Strength and Endurance.
Power and Quickness: To improve your reflexes and foot-to-foot quickness, you need dynamic, ski-specific drills from lateral training that simulate the actual movements you do on the ski hill. With this in mind, we’ve included five jumping exercises, which are also called plyometrics, as the essential exercises to improve your foot-to-foot quickness and explosive power.
Plyometrics are commonly referred to as explosive types of exercise drills, and are often used in conditioning programs for elite skiers because the combination of squatting with weights and lateral jumps, sprints, or quickness drills, develops the leg and hip power necessary for high performance skiing.
Before you Start
Caution must be exercised whenever beginning any conditioning program. Use an exercise regimen that’s appropriate for your body type and your present level of conditioning. Please consult with your physician, if you suspect that this ski-specific program is not suitable for you at the present time.
Rent a Recreational Vehicle
Rent a recreational vehicle instead
If you take my tip, rent a recreational vehicle first and see how it suits you. With a valid driver’s license, you are free to rent a recreational vehicle that you can test drive for a week or so. See how it feels. If you are not used to drive heavy unwieldy wide-bodied vehicles, you may hit the curves every time you take a turn. Take an impassionate view. Do you really enjoy being in it or are you indulging yourself? Think also of all the possibilities as you are using it and see if it still appeals to you. Rent a recreational vehicle to be sure of the monster.
Rent a recreational vehicle – Benefits
Rent a recreational vehicle to test your endurance, patience and stamina. Though the brightly colored brochure gives vivid pictures of contended families traveling in a multicolored motor home through a wild reserve or a national park, traveling in a recreational vehicle involves lot of work. See, if you can adjust to the routine. The rented vehicle will give you that chance to accept or reject it.
There are many other reasons to rent a recreational vehicle. Hiring companies spread all over the US offer excellent service that include (a). Choice of vehicle from a wide selection of fully equipped luxury motor homes from America’s top manufacturers like Fleetwood RV, Winnebago, etc, (b). All their RVs are fully company owned and operated, (c). Toll free roadside assistance with more than 1500 service locations throughout the country, (d). Online reservation.
Some useful tips before you rent a recreational vehicle
Before going to rent a recreational vehicle it may be prudent to consider the topography of the place of visit. See if it is a narrow mountain road or a high plateau. You should also consider the size of the family, their slipping arrangements, storage space, power of the engine, etc.

Shopping for a Swimming Pool
When the summer rolls around and the air heats up, we all dream of having pools in our own backyard. However, before shopping for pools, it is important to be aware of safety issues. Make sure you are willing to take on the responsibility before you buy.
Do you have a lot of kids in your neighborhood? Pools are magnets for children! Be aware that if the pool is on your property, you may be liable for any accident that may occur. For safety reasons, the American Academy of Pediatrics does not recommend installing pools until your children are at least 5 years old. While they are certainly a lot of fun, pools can also be hazardous if the owners don't take proper precautions.
Fences should be placed around pools to prevent accidental falls as well as uninvited guests. The fences should be at least 4 feet high and gated. Ideally, there should be latches and locks for when the pools are not in use. Ladders from above-ground pools should be removed when not in use.
All pools should be equipped with life preservers. Swimmers should always have a buddy, regardless of age; children in particular should not swim without adult supervision. Too many drownings occur in pools every year, and many of these could have been easily prevented. Many of these accidents occur in family-owned pools.
Another thing to think about before shopping for pools is the amount of time that goes into owning them. Pools need to be well maintained. They should be cleaned regularly, and checked for pH levels. Chemicals such as chlorine need to be stored in cool, dry, well-ventilated areas out of the sun, and they should be locked up when not in use. Covers should be kept on pools during long periods of non-use. This not only keeps swimmers out but also helps keep the pools clean.
Owners who follow simple safety guidelines can enjoy their pools without having to worry too much about catastrophes. Just remember that accidents can happen to anybody, and letting down your guard for just a moment may be long enough for that one tragedy to occur. With a responsible attitude and awareness, pools can be enjoyable for everyone.

Ten tips for making holiday shopping easier
Here Goes:
* Write a list of everything you need for the holidays: food, presents, decorations, everything. Then split this list into items you can buy online and those you have to go out for.
* Buy everything that you can online. This way you can sit down with a nice glass of wine or cup of coffee and order your groceries and presents in a stress free environment. You buy anything from $2.00 decorations to a full set of drums of the internet. If you are internet savvy (be aware of dodgy sites) then this can be a great way to get (almost) everything online.
* Don’t go shopping after work (well duh I here you say). If you have a list of the things that you have to leave home for then choose a day when you can get to the shops early.
* Don’t spend your whole holidays shopping. If you choose one day and arrive as soon as the mall opens then you can be in and out before the masses arrive.
* Don’t take the kids shopping. Sorry, but they will slow you down and irritate you further when they are dawdling through the busy shops.
* Recruit a holiday helper. Your partner, mum, dad, brother, sister or in-laws are all great people who you can ask for help from. If they are going to a particular place during the day and you can’t make it, give them a list of things that you need and some cash to pay for it.
* Want different gifts? Then how about steering clear of the big shopping complexes altogether. Every city has a little, quiet, hidden hideaway full of fantastic goodies. It is also a good way to support local businesses.
* Do you have a big family? Then a Secret Santa always work well. Each Family member pulls one name out of a hat and you buy for that person. You can spend a little more on the present and spend less time at the shops.
* Buy in July. In Australia we have our huge toy sales and stocktake sales in July this is a great time to layby all your kiddy's toys for Christmas and purchase some pressies at bargain prices.
* Hamper it! There are many companies that advertise hampers during the Christmas period. This is where you select a hamper or hampers from a catalogue and pay a bit each week and receive your hamper(s) before Christmas the next year. They have food, drink, toy, recreation and even voucher hampers. This can be a great way to plan all your Christmas gifts for next year!
Online Music Stores: More Reviews
As before, I compared the stores on ease of use, selection and price. Also as before, prices were comparable in all the stores, so the site design and selection became the primary criteria. The two new stores in the mix are CD Connection and Music Boulevard.
Ease of Use
I still think that the strength - or weakness - of an online store derives primarily from how easy it is to use. Both the new contenders score well here, but CD Connection is the clear winner. While its default interface does require frames, you can switch to a no-frames version (very nice for those with older browsers or who just don't like frames). The classical search on CD Connection is quite impressive; you can search by composer, performer, album title, work title, or label. The results screen is easy to navigate, and includes prices. Clicking on "details" gets a screen of further information about the CD, though not a complete track listing. The details screen does often include information about the date and genre of the works featured on a given recording, as well as suggestions for other composers to try. A unique feature of CD Connection is its "Golden Ears" rating system, which allows users to rate and review recordings. That information is also included in the details screen.
Music Boulevard has about average ease of use. It's a straightforward search interface, but unfortunately doesn't allow searching by work title (though you can search by album title, composer, performer, and catalog number). The searches seemed slower than at CD Connection or CDnow, but not as slow as at Tower Records. The search results do include prices; if you click on the title of the recording, you get more information about the recording. Music Boulevard's details screen does generally contain a track listing or at least a full listing of the works contained on the recording.
Online Music Stores: A Review
The Ground Rules
I chose six major online CD stores to compare: CD Land, CDnow, CD Banzai!, CD Universe, CD World, and Tower Records. Of these six, CD Land dropped off my list right away when it couldn't complete my search requests without server errors. If you want people to shop with you, you'd better be able to let them shop! I compared the remaining five stores on the following grounds: ease of use, selection, and price. A logical next step would be to order from all five and compare service, but I'm afraid my budget doesn't currently allow that. Perhaps soon!
Ease of Use
Online shopping can be either a great pleasure or an immense frustration, depending almost entirely on whether a site is well-designed. As I mentioned, CD Land dropped out of the running immediately when I couldn't do searches without encountering server errors. The other sites didn't give me that problem, but they did have other difficulties.
All the sites have separate classical music search pages, which is a good thing, since the search terms used for pop and rock recordings aren't always adequate for classical ones. The search page itself is fairly standard across the board - you can search by composer, album title, work title, performer, and sometimes label. Where the stores differ most, though, is in what you get as a result from the search page.
To my mind, CDnow wins here. When you do a search, you get a list of album titles, with prices, and under the title (if you searched by work title, as I did), a list of the works on that recording that matched your search terms. Clicking on the "info" button for a recording will take you to a detailed information page, which generally lists performers and the details of the works included. This makes it very easy to tell if you're getting a complete opera or highlights, and exactly which singers are featured.
CD World has a similar interface, though not quite as nice as CDnow's. Tower Records also provides some detailed information, but the initial list you get back from a search does not include prices or other information. Thus you have to look at each one individually to get basic information, which for something like Figaro can be very time-consuming. Tower's search also seemed very slow

Gourmet Shopping Like the Celebs
Celebrity Sighting
We passed the high-end cosmetics and perfume counters and made a B-line for the hallowed food halls. Amidst abundant showcases of gorgeously prepared and fresh foods, I spotted with my little eye a woman clad in black. A black skull and cross bone bandana worn over long raven tresses, black sunglasses, a black leather jacket and yep, black velour track pants proclaiming “Juicy Couture” across her backside. I took one look at the chiselled face and knew I had seen that face before. It wasn’t until we were waiting to be served at the deli counter (my husband spotted game Biltong- a dried, jerky type of meat from South Africa) that I realized I was standing next to Cher! So much for being incognito- everyone and their butler knew it was her- no one said boo about it though- at least not while in her presence. That would be gauche. Once Cher’s 500 grams of green peppercorn German salami had been thinly sliced, packed and handed off to her, she made her way to the check out counter and into the next food hall, never to be seen by this humble food writer again!
Post-Cher, we admired the aromas of freshly ground coffee coming from the coffee counter. At just under £3, we purchased some Rare Estate-Grown Monsooned Malabar Coffee Beans for family and for ourselves. I know this is going to be one smooth brew. Exotic fruit, every kind of preserve under the sun, oils, vinegars, specialty spices, salts, viennoiserie, chocolate, liquor and cured meat was available for refined palates of every stripe. The place I might also add, was packed and due to close in less than an hour!
We picked up some mini bottles of aged Scotch with a corresponding flask for friends and drooled over the Ladurée Tea Room (which we patiently waited to try until we reached Paris) - a picture-perfect room with pastel hued macaroons promising sweet surprises.
Here’s some news you can use:
IF you’re in London or planning to head over there and want to create a customized food basket or “Hamper” as the Brits call them, the food halls also offer on-site staff to help you do just that - starting from £15, and going up to whatever your generosity will accommodate (how does £5000 grab you?).
We were quite happy to pick up some savoury rosemary cheese biscuits, our coffee, a few snacks to go and a few other goodies for friends. This is THE place if you have a gourmand in your life who likes the finer things and has most everything. Chances are, you’ll find something unique, unusual or just plain fabulous at some of the most attractive and well stocked food halls I’ve ever walked through. And best of all, if you don’t live in London, you can order online! Merry gift-giving indeed!
Shopping for Back-to-School Shoes
2. Next, determine which shoe styles you will need for school. Chances are, you will need to purchase new sneakers, dress shoes, and casual shoes at the very minimum. Take care not to overspend on ultra-trendy shoes. If you really can't live without a particular hot shoe style, indulge in one pair. One of the easiest mistakes to make is to stock up on trendy shoes while neglecting the tried-and-true basics. If you're looking for a trendy-yet-practical style, ballet flats are a great option for both women and children. These comfortable shoes are very versatile and can be worn with a wide variety of pants, skirts, shorts, and dresses.
3. Know your shoe size! One of the most important steps to take before shopping for back-to-school shoes is to check shoe size. If you have children, always be sure to take an accurate measurement of foot size in order to find shoes that fit properly.
4. Check out sales! Buying shoes on summer clearance is a great way to save money on your back-to-school budget. Department stores often have great deals on end-of-season clearance sales, while other stores have a steady supply of excellent buy.
5. Get organized! Having a well-organized closet can make clothing selection much simpler. Shoes that are out of sight usually see little wear, so keep your shoes in a visible location or clearly labeled. A little work now to organize your closet can save a lot of hassle on busy mornings.
